Grant Opportunities

ARCH Network Convening Funds Opportunity!

The ARCH Network seeks to advance multidisciplinary research on aging and the life course and the social and behavioral influences on health for justice-involved older adults. A primary goal of the ARCH Network is to bring together researchers who are dedicated to studying the experiences of criminal justice-involved older adults in a community of collaboration and support.

In support of this goal, the ARCH Network has set aside “convening funds” to support the establishment of new ARCH Network research teams who are developing an R-level grant application (or foundation grant).

The “convening funds” would cover travel costs of one in-person working meeting or symposium (across one or several days) for a team(s) of researchers in a U.S. destination of the team’s choice (such as one member’s home institution). Reimbursable costs include economy flight, ground transportation/car rental, hotel, and meals and incidentals. Receipts are required for all expenses and alcohol is not reimbursable. All expenses would be reimbursed after travel takes place. See UCSF’s Travel Reimbursement documentation for more details.

We anticipate being able to reimburse costs up to $7,000 per team (for up to 3 research teams). If more than 3 research teams apply and meet the submission criteria below, we will randomly select 3 teams to fund. “Convening funds” must be utilized by May 31, 2026 (the last day of the grant cycle).

Teams eligible for convening funds must meet the following criteria:

  • U.S. based
  • 2 to 4 team members, where at least 2 team members are ARCH Network members
  • The team represents at least 2 different universities/organizations
  • At least 2 of the team members have not previously submitted a grant together as Co-PIs/Co-Investigators
  • The team’s goal is to submit an R-level grant (or foundation grant) within one year

Applications for Convening Funds are due Monday, December 15, 2025.

To apply for convening funds, please provide a 1-page statement, that includes:

  • A list of the team members with a brief description of their roles/area of expertise, and what they will contribute to the convening meeting
  • The intended grant mechanism (e.g., R01). Please include the specific program announcement, if applicable.
  • A brief overview of the research topic
  • A description of the research collaboration and how this funding will support cross-institution collaboration. If an existing collaboration, describe prior publications, presentations, or grants. If a new collaboration, describe planned collaboration beyond this meeting.
  • The proposed meeting date/dates

If awarded, teams will be required to provide brief quarterly updates regarding the team’s progress towards submitting a grant application.

Please contact ARCH Network Leadership if you have a research idea but need assistance with identifying potential collaborators.
